The Lakes Area Tea Party June meeting had international author, blogger, and researcher Trevor Loudon deliver a sobering, yet spirited message to a crowd of about 100 attendees on Monday night.  Mr. Loudon is on tour in America, so the LATP scheduled their monthly meeting to take place at the Emagine Theater in Novi. Mr. Loudon was available before and after the meeting to speak with guests one-on-one, along with several local candidates, including Deb O’Hagan, Matt Maddock, Dan Lauffer and Dr. Rob Steele.

The June meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by retired Marine Don Woodward. As always, Mr. Woodward graciously provided the US flag.

This was followed by a stirring rendition of the National Anthem by Amy Carlson.

Each candidate was given the opportunity briefly address the audience; Dr. Rob Steele who is running for U of M Regent,  Deb O’Hagan, running for Michigan State House Representative – 39th District, Dan Lauffer running for State Representative – 38th District, and Matt Maddock, who is running for State Senate – 15th District.

Then came the main attraction, Trevor Loudon. Mr. Loudon spoke about US Senators and Representatives that have ties to Communist Party USA, Democratic Socialists of America, Workers World Party, and and other radical anti-American organizations, including some here in Michigan. He described why the US Congress has moved so far left during the past 40 years, what it means for us now, and what it means for our future and our children and grandchildren. After painting a sobering picture of a great country at the edge of the abyss, his message shifted to one of hope, optimism and the Tea Party. He concluded by speaking about the hard work that will be required to restore the Constitution and retain our freedom.

It was a powerful speech. With his unmistakable New Zealand accent, Mr. Loudon’s message had energy and enthusiasm for America that was inspirational and infectious.
