May 12th Meeting Recap

May’s meeting began with a special performance by Men of Grace. Their musical talents were truly a treat for the attendees. You can learn more about Men of Grace at their website menofgracemusic.com.

Next came a “Flash Mob” demonstration. Several attendees ran up to the front of the room holding up signs and cheering. Rosanne Ponkowski spoke on the usefulness of “Flash Mobs”.

Monday night’s meeting featured guest speaker Pastor Kent Clark. Pastor Clark is the senior pastor and executive director of Grace Centers of Hope, Michigan’s largest and oldest homeless shelter. Paster Clark’s gave an inspired speech on the perils of our country’s drift from Christian values and principles.

Special-Events_Walk-A-Mile-in-My-ShoesGrace Centers of Hope presents the 9th Annual “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” Walkathon. It will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2014 at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. This fun, family-friendly event helps to raise support for Grace Centers of Hope Children’s Programs which allows homeless children to receive the help they need to thrive and grow. Kelly Connolly gave an update on the Part Time Legislation effort. She also announced that OCRP Chairman Jim Theinel will debate Randy Bishop on the Part Time Legislature Initiative May 28th, 7:00pm at the Bloomfield Township Senior Center.

Dan Osterman then spoke about the advantages of establishing a publicly owned state bank – the potential benefits and misconceptions. Learn more at publicbankinginstitute.org.

The Lakes Area Tea Party’s next meeting will be a little different – and special. The LATP will host guest speaker Trevor Loudon at the Emagine Theater in Novi on Monday, June 9th, 7:00pm. The switch in locations is due to the large crowds that Mr. Loudon attracts, so register early! More information to come.
